NBC news announced al find in Petrified Forest: a Basketmaker village of what they called 50 homes from between 200-700 AD. The story wasn't very informative, although there may not really be much more to know than that it was there.

Re: Basketmaker Village in Petrified Forest
Good question. I wouldn't expect to see the correct phase cited in an article like that. I hope a more detailed story pops up eventually, but I suppose there were many large settlements in that area.Nighthiker wrote:Late start in that area, Basket Maker II ?

Thanks! Although not a whole lot more detail, I find that story much more satisfying. I wonder what marvels they'll eventually find in all those other acres.autumnstars wrote:The AZ Central article has somewhat more detail http://www.azcentral.com/story/travel/2 ... /16995169/

It's interesting, but not surprising. They found more than 400 undocumented sites in Mesa Verde after the fire in 1996. Which seems surprising considering how long it's been a park.

I've found undocumented sites in the White Mountains. The thing to do is to record with GPS and report to the state archaeologist at the Arizona State Museum in Tucson. If it's on private land don't bother.
