Hiking the AZT in Early March

Post by Sighman »

My wife and I are planning to hike the entire AZT this coming Spring. We are from Canada and we will do the trail in three segments. Something like Start to Oracle, Oracle to Flagstaff, and Flagstaff to End. This would offer us the opportunity to mail and set-up drops without leaving them for more than a month. The real dilemma is what to do with my Jeep while doing each third.

Our intent is to take a few days after each segment; get to the car, camp for two or three days, recoupe, mail the drops for the next segment, go drop the car and then carry-on hiking.

Is a long term parking in Phoenix, Tucson and/or Flagstaff an option? I followed a blog earlier but I'm not sure what options I have.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Sighman

Hm. I bet if you contact city gov or chamber of commerce in the towns near where you want to be they may have some place that you could park your vehicle. Be worth asking anyhow. There's a little hotel in Oracle - don't know the name but I hear of many thru-hikers staying there and they always comment how helpful the owner is. She may be worth contacting also. Someone reading this may be able to help out with the motel in question here.

I'd be curious to hear what you find out about long-term parking. I'll be coming down from Jackson Hole, Wyoming this spring by car, so I'll need a place to keep mine as well.

I'll keep you posted. Fairly cheap option at some of the U-Storage places in Flagstaff. I'm doing a little recon trip on two weeks to chat with people!

@Sighman
I am looking to hike with some people for the first 300 miles in March Nobo. I will be driving from Colorado and we could use both cars. I have another friend I will hike with starting on April 1st from mile 300. I hike 2-2.5mph averaging 12-15 mile days. I am 50 years old. If you are interested in some company for the first 300 miles of your trip,and the convenience of 2 cars for shuttles, please email me at. Lisashik@yahoo.com. Lisa
