Best Active Valley Meetups for Singles

Post by Jim »

So, being in the valley for >1 year, someone suggested I put myself out there and attempt to meet a fellow hiking female. I have had many bad experiences with meetups for member quality, participation or group activity, and other things, but Todd once informed me there are some valley meetups that have a certain reputation. That reputation may be something other than what I am after, but at 37, time and life is becoming much more obvious that it is passing me by. You know what I mean, or don't, I don't know. I just can't ask a simple question, can I.

So, what are some good, active, Phoenix or Valley wide meetups, that also seem to have a singles function, and are more 20s to 30s, in age range? Hopefully, they also hike some good hikes, and aren't just doing Shaw Butte 2x a week to, "get in shape".

I know what you mean. I'm always in search of finding hiking buddies too and it's not easy. I'm only free on weekends while most folks go hiking during the week.

I looked into the "Meet Up" site but most of their activities are weeklong traveling trips, or like you mentioned - the same hike or area every week.

So for now I'm avoiding the "meet up" concept and pretty much just hiking on my own, while joining a couple other hikers when the opportunity arises.

I'm no stranger to repeats, if it is solid. I just want other stuff, too. I may not be clear here, I'm not looking purely for a hiking group, I am looking for a hiking group that serves as a singles mixer, too. Meet someone who hikes, kind of thing.

Try Tinder and throw a couple of hiking pics in your profile. It worked for me.

Guys must have better luck with apps like Tinder. I tried it once and that did not last long. I know not all single guys are the same, but I was getting the majority who were only looking for one thing, and I'm not that kind of girl. So I stopped using the apps and "singles" sites and am just doing my own thing. I enjoy hiking, even if I'm solo.

Anyway, best of luck to you.

Do you write your posts with one of these :wrt: ?

Anyway, good luck in your quest. It's something I'm so determined to avoid that I called dibs on being the first to die.

The best places to meet women (outside of college) are at a yoga studio or salsa dancing. But since you don't do either one, I suggest that you sign up for all of the hiking meetup groups and see which ones appear to you and weed out the ones that are not your style.

The other site that I used with great success when I was single was OKCupid. Put in a bunch of hiking pics and was straight up in telling people that hiking for me was more than doing a loop or two on North Mountain. You don't need a smartphone to use it. Made some joke that I don't play golf or hang out in sports bars all weekend, but instead can be found out on a trail. Put in the tag line "I can show you my favorite trail". Bear in mind that dating online is a numbers game, I needed to send a message to 10 women in order to get 3 to respond back, out of those 3 maybe get 1 date.

Ended up getting lucky and found a woman who fell in love with hiking after I showed her a trail or two. Going on a hike was our second date.

Ah....the electronic, superficial, and incredibly frustrating online world. At least meetups are in person at some point.

Phoenix Rock Gym. Climb a couple days week to stay in shape. Bingo. That's how I met someone who puts up with me. She even likes to hike. Devils' Chasm isn't a good first hike or second hike.

Or church. Single girls go to church to meet people. They figure a guy who goes to church has to be a good catch. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up!

Going to church was another early date. According to sources close at hand church attendance seems to weed out most (though not all) weirdos and creeps.
