Arizona Geological Survey has reported finding a new 1.8-mile-long fissure, caused by groundwater depletion via farm irrigation, in Pinal County, 13 miles south of Arizona City. The international newsies have picked up on this story and are making a bit of a fuss about it. (Google it.)
Here's a local news story about it:

@Sun_Ray
I'm usually awake by 3:30 or 4:00. A little earlier this morning because I had a nap yesterday, wasn't feeling well--got too much sleep too early.
When I had a family at home it was my private time, and I've continued the habit. I never have to use an alarm clock, that's for sure.

It's been discussed a bit on other forums. I'm a little surprised that most national stories overlook the prevalence of existing fissures in SE AZ. This isn't a terrible new thing, it's an old thing that's getting worse.

I found this interesting regarding the recharging of the aquifers. Some places that I thought were silly lakes wasting water are actually recharge zones.

If you connect the dots between fissures you will see the future coastline of Arizona. Just sayin...

@hippiepunkpirate
Cool video! And the soundtrack is appropriate for a movie with eruptions.
