Prosopis glandulosa
Western mesquite grows in the same type of terrain and soil as does mesquite (var. glandulosa) and sometimes hybridizes with it and P. velutine (velvet mesquite). It has a thorny trunk and branches and a loose open crown. The leaflets of western mesquite are less smooth and at least twice but usually three times shorter than those of mesquite.
