Description: Beginning around 975 Hohokam people began amalgamating into larger surface dwellings, ranging from large mesa-top masonry structures to rancheria-like villages around a central courtyard made of caliche in the desert lowlands. This development seems to indicate a greater community coherence and generally coincides with the rise of Platform Mounds. After about 1450, when the Hohokam civilization collapsed, the descendants of the Hohokam, the Pima, continued to live in modified surface dwellings until after the Spanish entrada.
