A
Route is a collection of Track(s) and/or Waypoint(s) (aka POIs). Route Editor allows you to create and/or edit Routes. Routes can be downloaded for your GPS unit. These routes can also be imported into our app
Route Scout - GPS Topo Mapper so you can follow along on the trail.
Load ( from Route Cloud™ )
This option allows you to load Routes you have previously saved using
Save or
Save As.... This is called "cloud computing" where you access your files from any computer. You may load Routes from members that have you on their
Follow list and set the permissions on their saved route to Following. You may load Routes from any member that sets the permission on their route to "public".
From My Device ( Load then Upload )
GPX, GDB & other GPS file formats may be loaded directly from your device. Click "Load" then "Upload" will appear in the upper left corner of the load dialog box.
Waypoints
A waypoint is a POI (point of interest). Examples include geocaches, turns in the trail, destinations and such.
- Add Waypoint (yellow diamond button) in the upper left of the map allows you to add waypoints to the map
- Move - click and drag to desired location
- Name / Comment - click waypoint to edit, neither are required
- Change Symbol - click waypoint then select Change Symbol to change the icon
Waypoint Functions
- Sort
- Name Sorts by Name, Time then Comment
- Comment Sorts by Comment then Name
- Time Sorts by Time then Name
- Selected functions are applied to all checkbox selected Waypoints in the list
- Change Symbol
- Clear Text
- Delete
- Save Route to make changes permanent!
Tracks
A track is one line on the map, typically to aid in finding your way from start to finish and perhaps to points of interest along the way.
- Add Track (jagged line button) in the upper left of the map allows you to add tracks. Upon clicking a new track is added to the track menu and placed in Edit Mode. Next, click the map to start your track. The first point will be black with a white dot to indicate the start of the track. Each additional click plots a green point to represent a new point to the track.
- Edit Mode To add, move or delete points on a track it must be selected to edit. The pencil icon is Green when on and Red when off. Points of the track will be square icons when turned on too.

Click, hold & drag to change order of tracks.
A track must be in Edit Mode to perform the following functions.
Be sure to Save your Route to make changes permanent.
- Move click, hold and drag points of the track to move to the position desired
- Plot click the map to add points to the end of the track. Using a close zoom level increases accuracy. The Satellite layer has the best zoom.
- Add click, hold and drag faded squares to add points in the middle of the track
- Delete click points to delete
The following options are selected from a popup window after clicking a track line on the map (not to be confused with the menu listing).
If the track is in edit mode then turn off edit mode first.
- Clone Creates a new duplicate track. Typically used to create an out-n-back.
- Join - Icons when you hover over a track let you know which end is being joined.
Since 2 tracks are being selected each must be correct.
step 1 - click the 1st track and select join ( a black "+" icon will be on the end you clicked )
step 2 - if the black

icon is not where you want it then abort ( reclick that same track, it will abort as you can not join to the same track )
step 3 - hover over the end of the track you want to join, note the green

icon as that is where the black will join
join tips
- If you click the terminus end on the second track it will automatically be reversed before joining to keep consecutive order of points
- Bring a track to the foreground by clicking the colored square in the list of tracks
- Profile Produces an elevation profile of the track.
- Reverse Reverses the track.
- Split Splits the track at the point nearest the click. A new track is added. The name of the new track has a (+) at the end of the name.
Save
After loading a map or using
Save As... continue to use this function to update your file.
Save as...
Use this function to create a new file.
Link
This produces a link to the map last saved. Access permissions will determine who may view the map. Others can not make edits to your file. They may use
Save As... to create a new file.
Download
Several popular formats are offered for a quick way to copy the route on the screen (regardless of last
Save) to your hard drive. You must be registered and logged in to use this feature.
