You can see the main dome (Enchated Rock) at left. Beginning 65 million years ago, around the time the dinosaurs died out, uplift exposed that limestone to erosion. Unlike limestone, metamorphic rock like granite is resistant to weathering and erosion. The stone that once covered Enchanted Rock wore away, leaving a granite mountain to tower above its surroundings.
