Most of the forest could resemble this, if the state was active the way Florida DoF was, 20 years ago. Florida was trying to restore longleaf pine as an ecosystem and timber species. NJ wants private land owners to restore shortleaf, but seems to lack the knowledge or ability to manage their "preserved" lands accordingly.
