The canyon bottom narrows to a slot about 0.5 miles downstream from the smelter. The trail to the Verde continues along the hillside on the right side of the creek. I didn't go far past the point where this picture was taken but portions of the trail are visible on Google Earth. The trail disappears from view on GE along this narrow section of canyon.
