Cowboys taking care of business on the west side of JD Dam Lake. This area is an active open range. These cowboys were branding the season's calves in the open without benefit of a corral. Momma who had very sharp horns was keeping a close eye on her calf. I'm surprised the cowboys didn't seem too concerned. Many years ago a ranching cousin of mine got seriously injured by a momma cow defending her calf.
