Now we are in Whitefish walking around. The building in front of you, the Craggy Range was next to the Hanging Tree Saloon (between the Great Northern and Craggy). My dad owned the Hanging Tree for a bit with a partner in the late 70s. It was next to the Cadillac Hotel which is now the home of my Huckleberry Wheat lager: Great Northern Brewing Company (the corner building here). The railroad station is right across the way. The Hanging Tree had a big wall painting of a hanging tree. I can see it in my mind; can't find a picture of it though. Also, I can't find the article now but apparently the creator of McDonald's met his waitressing wife at the Hanging Tree.

More info on the Craggy Range (will have to go there next time I'm in town) During the renovation, a historic wall of hand-painted sign art on cinder blocks was created. The art display includes local family names going back three and four generations in Whitefish, including the Goble and Silliker families. The wall, a part of the old Hanging Tree bar that once operated next door to Craggy Range, now serves as a focal point and features a large flat-screen TV that covers an old window cutout in the center of the historic find.

In addition to the hand-painted sign art, a unique addition is the longest frost bar in Montana. A frost bar features a chilled metal rail running the length of the bar that creates a dry layer of frost on which patrons can rest their beer mugs and cocktails to keep them cold. Other new amenities are the garage-style front windows, a railroad foot rail around the bar, 16 flat-screen TVs (including two on the patio,) and an upgraded stage area for live music.
