Retracing my steps from Temescal Peak back to the Backbone Trail on the very narrow and overgrown game trail a rattlesnake and I surprised each other. He's black and impossible to see in those bushes in the middle of the picture, and he's rattling his little tail off in a very angry way to keep me back. It worked. There was no way to go around him, so I had to find a different way off the Peak which was challenging.
