I read: Ethnobotany - Used to kill lice and taken after accidentally swallowing ants; used to make arrows, forks, planting sticks and knitting needles; also used to make ceremonial items and in ceremonial medicine. Etymology: Fendlera is named for Augustus Fendler (1813-1883) a German plant collector who worked for Asa Gray and George Engelmann; rupicola means growing on rocks or cliffs.
