The island of Hawaii's tallest waterfall, Hiilawe Falls cascades down 1,300 feet in the back of Waipio. You cannot see it from here (it's on the far left but no viewpoint lets you see it which is too bad. The best view of Hi’ilawe Falls and of the entire valley is from the Muliwai Trail, about halfway up the sea cliffs on the other side of Waipi’o Valley. However, the road to the valley is closed. Very interesting article: I didn't realize the guarded gate was because the road had been closed in February. A lawsuit was filed in April. Needless to say, it's very interesting and will remind you of some of what we deal with in our popular tourist/hiker areas as well https://www.civilbeat.org/2022/04/waipi ... al-action/
