Along my route between on US Highway 2 you will see occasional signs designating the route Lewis and Clark took through Montana. They actually camped on the Marias River, not too far from the homestead. This is on the west side of Cut Bank MT. Cut Bank was known as the deep freeze of the nation in the 1960s.
The town was so frequently linked to the phrase, "coldest spot in the nation," that it became Cut Bank's unofficial motto, even after frigid Alaska became part of the USA. Arctic air masses and local topography bring waves of bitter cold into Cut Bank.
