The fabulous Highwoods. The big mountain is called Highwood Baldy. Although some of the mountains resemble volcanic cones, they are not. Instead they are simply the eroded remains of cones and lava that erupted about 50 million years ago.

Here you are looking south over the Missouri River (out of our view as it's lower of course). The Missouri is heading east (left) to meet up with the Mississippi many, many miles away. I actually got to do a boat trip from here to Fort Benton in 2008. And then in 2010 we floated from Fort Benton to Virgelle (I have video for both). I highly recommend both trips if you're in the area.
