Last year, the colors were just explosive but this year we were a little early for the full autumn display. Michelle, Mike and I started down the trail and came across people camped RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the trail before you cross Christopher Creek. Interesting since it was 9:30 AM and they were still in the tent. Making as much noise as possible, we headed on past them
Decided to take a little adventure and headed up the Highline for a bit, then turned around after 3/4 of a mile or so and started up See Canyon. It's a pretty enough trail and there was quite a bit of water flowing even into the upper canyon area. Not much color in the lower canyon but nice colors in the upper canyon. Michelle and I found a pretty area off the trail right next to the creek to stop and have lunch, listen to the mini-waterfall and see some nice color. There was one maple that was just BLAZING with color! Very splendid day.
On our way down the trail we ran into this very nice woman who was hiking with her small dog (looked like a Porgi) and she had a backpack on with a CAT in it! YES......it was Elsa, the backpacking cat. A beautiful tabby who was content as could be in this....I guess you could call it a catpack. Now this was a first for me to see. A cat in a backpack.
After returning from the trail, we went car camping up on the Rim somewhere near Chevelon Creek. Temps were in the chilly 30's this morning when I woke up at 5 AM. Beautiful sunset and beautiful stars.
I had a terrific birthday with my friends and a very relaxing weekend! Thanks Mike and Michelle! |
