Reading up on the web, we discovered that the best time to view the Bells is at sunrise. That meant an early start departing no later than 4:00am from Glenwood Springs. Well worth the early start because they are spectacular! The trail is well groomed and extremely easy to walk around the lake. If you choose to arrive at dawn, you can drive your car close to the lake. Buses transport people into the park beginning at 9:00am. Bus info can be found here: http://www.stayaspensnowmass.com/activi ... roon-bells.
We continued on the Upper Scenic loop but ran out of time to head up to Crater Lake. Next time! I highly recommend a visit to the Maroon Bells. |
