Oz called me up three days earlier while I was driving home from Mammoth and asked me if I would be available in a couple weekends for a party for his birthday. I asked him if he was doing a birthday hike and he said yeah and that I was welcome to join, but that it would be on Thursday, so I'd have to take the day off work. The funny thing about that is that I had just accepted a job with a different company and was planning to give three weeks notice to my current employer. My employer was notorious for letting people go the day they gave notice, so I was pretty confident that I would be free on Thursday. I was....
It was a great hike. Lot's of green, lots of flowers, lots of horned lizards and lots of ticks. Once in Serrano Canyon there was also lots of poison oak.
What I didn't take any photos of were all of the fallen sycamore trees once we got into Big Sycamore Canyon. The winter had been so wet that Big Sycamore Creek had been raging and the root system of many of the sycamores that line the creek bed had eroded away to the point that the trees fell. It was pretty devastating. For what ever reason, I don't take photos when I'm in Big Sycamore Canyon. |
