Chumley put a bigger loop together but we were only doing the northern part just to wake up the legs after yesterday; which was just fine. He decided we would go counterclockwise. Cat (Catherine) came along too.

The first part is a road walk before you get to the turn off for the Shivers Trap Trail. We checked out the beautifully constructed corral; altho the chute is unusable. We crossed over the creek and then over this cutest little cattle guard; didn't know they made them in a 1/4 of the normal size. We headed up and then veered to the east. Kind of your typical forest walk with some points of interest along the way including a very flat spot that had been cleared; big enough for a large camp. There was also a fire ring (I missed that though).

We came upon an area that was overly signed (where was one of those yesterday ?) and veered back down to dry creek side. There was this most interesting plant we've seen over the last couple days that seems to start out green and turns red; it's about ankle height. There was lots of it, very pretty. Later we came upon a creek crossing that had a good pool of water in it with little fishies and a cascade off to the right. We crossed that and continued on our way commenting that this might be a beautiful area in the Fall.

Before reaching the tank, we passed by a most unusual tree with beautiful bark. Of course, none of us had any idea what it was other than NOT the standard tree fare. Shortly thereafter we came to the green foliage covered tank. It was really cool looking. After admiring it for a moment, the boys had to be boys and the rocks went flying  interrupting Mother Nature's beauty. Chumley even tried to skip a rock but the green foliage covered water was having none of that as it perplunked down into the pond.

And then we were done; hardly seemed we had hike almost 3 miles. I guess we goofed off more than I thot. Todd said something about just leaving his GPS on as we drove back to Merritt Spring and did that hike; gotta pad the mileage you know ;) , but he didn't.

And yes, of course I have video: http://youtu.be/q66Nnzv_RzM

Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
