| no partners | | We intended to hike this trail to a set of falls and then until the snow turned us away and we did end up hitting snow, however, it was ultimately a lot of deadfall and some rain clouds that had us turning around.
The first three miles of the trail are a multi use trail that allows atvs, however, the trail was still in great shape and fairly scenic, almost too scenic for a quad trail in my opinion, but better a quad trail there than in the Wilderness I guess. At mile five the deadfall started to get pretty heavy and the rain clouds were having us worried about our uncovered tent, so we turned around just after Omaha Creek. There was a set of falls marked on my map at Eagle Creek that I was interested in, but I was ok with turning around and satisfied with the portion of the trail we did. I think we had a creek crossing coming up very shortly anyways and that would have also signaled the end to our hike due to the raging creek.
Notes
The trail was a nicely flowing creek in many areas and a little muddy in spots, but still easy to follow, however, some may have trouble locating the trail after navigating through a few of the heavier downed trees areas. We saw a herd of probably 50 elk along the creek and then again in the meadow at three miles. The road into the trailhead is in excellent shape and car worthy. |
