| partners | | You usually need reservations to see the Upper Dwelling. It seems whenever I have a chance it is booked up. This time I called and it was booked for Friday but the Ranger told me Heritage weekend you don't need a reservation so I was in. Wally and I were at the lower dwelling when we heard on the Ranger radio that they opened the Upper one a half hour early. Cars were starting to roll in so we heading over. Wally passed everyone so we managed to hit both dwellings first. Not a big deal but it helps if you want photos without people in them. Cool ruin and a few more Metates here as well. The Rangers here were nice and informative. The views are very nice from here. At the trailhead there was a few booths set up that were cool. One guy showed us how to start a fire with string stick and bark. He did it pretty quick too. I saw Wally do it with vasoline and steel wool in the snow one time that was pretty cool too! The next booth was Indian stuff. I never knew they used such small arrowheads. Other Indian tools were cool too. Next booth pelts. Wally new them all . The last booth we checked out was a few snakes and a healthy Gila Monster. The Western Diamond Back they had must have been twice as wide as any I have ever seen. He said it was 5 and a half feet long also. Only saw the end button the way he was laying but it was huge too. Checked out the little Museum before we left. Interesting seeing the different styles. Afterwords we got to Big Daddy's Pizza at 10:55. They open at 11am....... on Tuesday! This hike is in the 60HIKES book so I'm down to 4 to go! Thanks Wally! |
