| no partners | | I have been so busy kayaking and backpacking that I have completely neglected to get out and run any canyons this summer. I have a list of about a half dozen or so that I would like to hit up before the weather changes, so made the long drive out to Gifford Pinchot to get one of the shorter routes crossed off my list.
Arrived at the trailhead to 2 other cars in the parking lot. I neglected to rappel Langfield Falls since there were several groups present and I wasn't fully prepared to get soaked (at least not from the get go). So I followed the user trail to the base and headed down the creek.
The drops come pretty quickly. The first one is only about 10' and I landed in a waist deep pool at the base. #2 I was able to bypass the rappel by down climbing on the right side. And #3 was a very short easy rappel/slide off a downed log on the left side of the creek.
The final falls, Lower Langfield, is spectacular and makes up for bypassing the first drop. The landing area at the bottom is a bit awkward- there are several deep pools that are dotted with down trees and broken boulders.
Got a little turned around on my hike out, realized I probably should have brought my gps/compass when doing off trail routes in the forest, but I managed to make it back the roadway without too much difficulty. |
