| no partners | | | Before laying eyes on the famous alcove I was most impressed by Wetherill’s un-trained discovery that Basketmakers were distinctly different peoples from what we now call Pueblo peoples and, just as importantly, that they were not contemporaneous tribes. However, upon standing in the smallish “cave” I was hit by the fact that a hundred-odd humans had been buried there, some after rather violent deaths. Despite our original intentions, we made only a half-hearted attempt to find the boulder displaying Richard’s inscription and left the drainage quietly. |
