| no partners | | | This short 1.8 mile round trip hike along the Lower South Prong of the Little Red River was the second part of our Caprock Canyon hike. We opted to do this short section not as part of our original hike because of the heat. I figured if it got too warm being .9 miles from the vehicle was better than being 2.5 miles away. This portion of the South Prong had a light trickle of water along the upper end of the creek with muddy sand on the lower portion. This is a fairly easy walk along the creek with lots of wild flowers and some interesting Limestone rock formations. The complete South Prong Trail starts to the west at the North Prong Spur Trail and ends to the east at the junction of the Wild Horse Trail and Lower North Prong Trail. At this junction the North and South Prong meet and become the Little Red River. The river was dry at this point. |
