Skippy and I explored Ahwatukee's "Lost Ranch" courtesy of some tips from Shawn Redfield. This trek is certainly no secret having encountered 8 separate groups (22 people) while hiking the loop exploring the old "ranch house" and mining remains. Lot's of desert varnish panels in the canyon beyond the ruins which suprisingly did not yield any South Mountain rock art (will have to check out my Bostwick and Krocek maps of South Mountain archeological sites).
Looking up some the history of the old mining operation and drawing a blank so far. Anyone got any information?
Joe - you may want to consider this as a regular HAZ hike for someone to write-up a future description. With the numbers I encountered today, this is nothing less than a popular trail. Well cairned with signage at the trailhead... |
