The sign at the top says "Down is optional". You can't even see the beach from the top of the dune... I had to go down. Really, I was doing it for time, just to see how fast I could do it. Running down, there were a lot more rocks than I had predicted, making me question being barefooted. About halfway down is spectacular. It is very unique because your vertical and horizontal field of view is consumed by water and sky... nothing else. I wish I had taken a photo. After making it down and touching the water, I made my way up. If this was a solid hill, it wouldn't have been that bad, but for 90% of the distance, each step I took put me right back where I was previously if I wasn't crawling. After powering through halfway up, I moved over to the darker sand, hoping for damper sand. It really was exhausting but I think conditions of the sand matter a lot. For the last little bit at the top, the sand is solid which was really refreshing. It took me 16 minutes and 3-4 seconds down and up, which was about what I was aiming for. Some guy took his tiny dogs down the dune. I hope he wasn't going to climb back up with them.

USGS 2016 LIDAR elevations put the climb at about 450 feet (54% grade), my watch said about 400 (48%), the synced route say 326 ft (39%). The horizontal one-way distance is ~830 ft or ~.16 miles.

I've always thought this website was for Arizona but I thought why not post this.
