| no partners | | Did some Rainbow Valley exploring this morning on the fat bike. I've been plotting and planning a visit to Flying A Ranch airstrip (historical) for at least 2 years. Parked the truck off Riggs Road just east of Bullard Ave. Headed east on Riggs for about 2 miles to an unnamed 2 track ranch road that leads southeast past some cattle pens, water tanks, and well pumps out to what would be Avondale Ave, then south for 1 mile, east to Flying A Ranch airstrip, down runway 12 where I had the pleasure of being buzzed by a 2008 Aviat Husky, so cool! Exited the end of the runway and headed east to 99th Ave, north then east to the powerline road, north past Quartz Peak access road to another Wilderness access road east for a mile or so through a rickety old barbed wire gate, after which the road just ended. I was expecting to see some old ranch foundations or something, but there was nothing, just cactus and brittlebrush, rocks and sand. Turned around and returned to the Powerline Road and then caught Empire Blvd west back to the big cattle pen, northwest to Riggs Road and back to the truck. Apart from the Husky, I crossed paths with two adventure motorcycle riders on the Sierra Estrella Wilderness powerline road.
