Returned to Skull Mesa with company this time. Planned to take 247A but we wound up just following the creek next to it until it ran into 247. That should have taken us right to the first crested saguaro but somehow we missed it. Did catch the next on Cottonwood going up to the mesa and bushwhacked out to it.

Took a few prickly pear needles into my feet across the mesa, grass was really high. I found a single boulder at the middle of the mesa when I came previously. Ironically it was only a few yards from the legendary X rated petro I had on the hitlist for this trip too, and we found lots more in the area as well as dozens of metates.

Planned the route to loop out to Chalk Canyon which I'd visited separately/directly from Spur Cross before. Naturally, we decided to gun it straight down from the ruins instead of going back across the mesa. I saw HAZ routes going straight down from north of the fortress, that must have been wild? We returned to the saddle of the land bridge which bled off some elevation and looked better on topo but the descent was still rough.
Skirting around the north tip of the mesa down low, we happened upon a random petro (33°57'14.76"N, 111°55'53.65"W) that's in the photoset, and another along trail #4 before getting to Chalk Canyon. Found lots of petros just south of the ruins and into the ruins proper. Headed north to a cattle path to get down to the bottom and explored the petro cache beneath the ruins too.

I tried to add my route but the gpx file is 8.3mb, and it took 4 hours to upload 5mb worth of photos for the photoset.
