This was a hike to the summit of Strawberry Mountain (elevation of 9,040 feet and prominence of 4,080 feet), the highpoint of Grant County. Strawberry Mountain is in eastern Oregon in the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness within the Malheur National Forest.

I started and ended the hike at the Strawberry Mountain TH, which is south of the peak. The TH is on a well-graded dirt road that is suitable for most vehicles to drive.

The hike is entirely on well maintained trails that go all the way to the summit. I started out on what topo maps call the Onion Creek Trail. There were tons of wildflowers along the way. The grade was modest until about the last mile, but it never got really steep.

Views were nice at the summit and I enjoyed being up there, although there was a smoky haze in the distance from some Oregon wildfires that are burning. I went first to the spot where the benchmark is supposed to be but I did not locate it. From there I noticed a bump to the south that is obviously higher, so I went there and marked a waypoint as the highpoint.

There is another route to Strawberry Mountain from the northeast that starts at the Strawberry Campground and goes by Strawberry Lake and Strawberry Falls. This is a longer route than what I did, but might be a better hike with the water that you pass by.
