I was able to park in the lot at the end of the road.

The steep quarter mile paved path turns into dirt path that turns and heads through old growth forest.

It's a steady to steep climb with a few false summits. The views just keep getting better.

I ran into a couple that was taking pictures of each other. I asked if I they would like me to take their picture together. The guy looked at me like I had a third eye and said. "NO... she's just my sister". My laugh for the day!

This area sees quite a bit of rain. It was so lush. I passed 6 or so people on my way up. I'd planned to have a snack at the top sitting on the picnic table. A group of chatty Cathy's monopolized the table the entire time I was up there.

A recommended hike if you are in the area for the great vistas.

After our failed attempt of the Mahana Ridge Trail, Jared and I drove East along a long, crazy one-lane road right along a cliff edge to the Waihe'e Ridge Trail. There was a gate near the road with a sign on it saying that it would be locked at 7pm, so we parked there are walked the rest of the way to the official trailhead.
The hike started off on a paved trail heading up through some fields with cows before veering off into some woods. The woods eventually gave way to the actual ridge portion of the hike, on which we saw several waterfalls. We reached the summit just in time for sunset, and hiked back down with flashlights. :)
