Beautiful morning hike up Devils Slide with wonderful views of the canyon, suicide rock and tahquitz. this is a great trail and normally very busy. we did this on a weekday and it was pretty low key

at the trail junction, the girls decided they wanted to go all the way to Tahquitz. :y:

the final leg to tahquitz after the PCT junction again offers incredible views of the canyon and high country. went up to the lookout, which is currently unmanned. found a superb spot for picnic. nice and mellow hike back down. saw more people coming up at this point.

this is a great hike, probably my favorite of the trip

this 9.3 mile round trip hike is fantastic! seems like a local favorite, as we passed about 15 people coming down on a thursday.
We were planning to do San Gorgonio the following day so this was a great warm-up hike to get us used to 8000 + feet elevation. Lots of interesting scenery and a few flowing seeps, interesting trees and formations kept us company until we got up to the fire tower at the peak where we had lunch and then headed back to the car. Was nice to visit Idyllwild again, it is such a quaint cool little town.

After camping at Mt. San Jacinto state park in Idyllwild, I woke up early to hit the trail from Huber Park. This is a popular route that's well maintained, scenic and fairly challenging as it leads to Tahquitz Peak. Excellent alternative to San Jacinto with plenty to do in Idyllwild to make a weekend out of it.

While I've hike the Idyllwild area a few times, this was new territory for me (mostly...). On this trip, we started out at Humber Park and ascended the Devil's Slide Trail up to the Saddle where we took the trail across Tahquitz meadow and Little Tahquitz valley. We then followed the PCT to the Red Tahquitz use trail. This "trail" was difficult to navigate at times due to excessive dead fall in areas. Since we were going up, it wasn't hard to figure out, however...

After having a short but relaxing lunch, we headed back down through Little Tahquitz Valley and followed the trail up to the Tahquitz Peak Lookout(8828ft)where we snapped a few obligatory photos and snacked a bit. Finally, we headed down the South Ridge Trail to it's end then took a short cut over to the Ernie Maxwell trail which lead us back to the parking lot. We arrived just about 8 hours after we started.
