This is a really interesting hike. Great big wide views of the Colorado River Valley, plus the amazing Fisher Towers looming over you like skyscrapers. On the way back I saw some rock climbers up on one of them.

I saw a Great Basin Gopher Snake, and got several photos.

This hike is very popular. I got to the trailhead around 8 a.m. or so, and there were a few people around, starting the hike, or getting ready to climb. Of course, on the way back, there were many people.

Near the beginning of the hike I took a side loop which is called the Red Onion Loop Trail. I didn't actually mean to get off onto that trail, but it turned out fine.

another recommendation from my climbing partners
21 mile drive on 128 along the colorado river with great scenery
trailhead is another two miles south on good dirt road
fisher towers is a well known climbing area, but also a trail through some of the hoodoos and towers up to a ridge
tremendous views from the ridge and throughout the hike
interesting rock formations, a fun hike full of ups and downs, one ladder in a tricky drainage
free access on blm land
stayed in moab
hit milt's stop and eat for dinner after a cuppa coffee at moab coffee roasters
spent some time at back of beyond bookstore
fun town

Easy 20 mile drive from Moab, UT. Campground, outhouse and parking for about 15 cars. Cold morning so we got there at 10 AM and got the last parking space. Beautiful views of red rock towers from the start. We elected to turn around at the 4 rung metal ladder at the 1.4 mile mark. Wife not happy with the ladder and it was tough going for me at 6000 feet. Viewed a group of 8 rock climbers on one of the towers. Beautiful driving, along Colorado River, through a canyon on highway 128 to get to the trailhead.

Drove out along the Colorado until I got to Castle Valley. Stopped at Fisher Towers. Strolled around in my flip flops for a bit and then headed back to town.

What a hidden gem! Saw this on the atlas and asked about it at the Moab visitor center. Their enthusiasm put this trail on my short list during my stay in Moab. Trailhead is well marked and trail is mostly easy to follow. There were a few points we were scratching out heads, but if you take a moment, you'll find the trail again. Lots of narrow shelf spots with some scary dropoffs. We were lucky enough to find rock climbers on top of Fisher Tower, it was hard not to stop and watch. There's a small camping area and a pit toilet at the trailhead.
