This is absolutely not "canyoneering". I mean, calling it a hike is a stretch!

A great little stop on the road between Page and Kanab. History is cool. :)

It was cold AF in the shade of the canyon, so we made the stop here quite brief.

For some fun and surprise, I lead my hubby and friends to the stacks of crushed cars in Cat Stair Canyon off Route 89, west of Big Water, Utah. We followed PaleoRob's driving directions, which worked out perfectly. From the end of the dirt road we hiked down into the canyon, headed east and quickly came to the first group of crushed cars. A guessing game ensued as to the reason or purpose for the cars being stacked there under Route 89. It was a great, short hike to start off our Utah road trip! From there we drove up Cottonwood Canyon Road (incredible scenery along the way) and stopped in at Kodachrome Basin State Park (countless spires).

I've always been interested in this canyon since reading about it on here. I've been up and down that section of highway a few times, funny thing is I knew exactly where the pull out is and I've always wondered what was back there. Hike itself is easy, you are very close to the highway so you do here the cars, but its not an extremely busy route. You will see several footprints so it is a well used route. Its also easy to follow, just stay in the canyon. The cars are interesting and fairly well preserved, I saw some paint that looked better than the hood of my old 2000 Tacoma. Its worth checking out, and short enough that it can be a quick stop on the way to Kanab. I didn't time it, but we did it in under an hour for sure.

Unplanned stop at this canyon with the stack of old cars. Weird. My son is a big car bugg, so he absolutely loved this canyon.

Took this route again, this time with GPS. Very cool site with the cars, some are very old.I saw a 60's Impala in there. I found out that this canyon is also called Catstair Canyon. Good hike w/kids and dogs

Did both upper and lower Car Wash with some friends from Wyoming who were in town. More of a hike than Canyoneering this time, since we had dogs. Should be able to do the whole thing without them, though!

Took the lower trailhead into the bottom of Car Wash. Saw the Basketmaker rock shelter and rock art. Hiked up a little bit more to the pourover then hiked back. Great easy hike with the parents in town.
