| no partners | | After hiking up to Glass Mountain, we decided to make a drive to Mono Basin and to Mono Lake.
I had heard of Mono Lake but did not know anything about it. It was really interesting to learn about the geology and ecology of the area.
There is pop culture here also: The Clint Eastwood Movie "High Plains Drifter" was filmed on the shores of Mono Lake.
This place is well worth the stop if you are ever in the area. |

| no partners | | Arrived at the South Tufa site around mid afternoon and had the site to myself. Hiked out to look at the Tufa and plan my photos for the sunset. After checking out the site I drove around Mono Lake and did some more site seeing. Returned to South Tufa around 3pm and waited a short while for the sun to set a little more before heading out. Just as I was getting ready to hit the trail, three other vehicles arrived to also photograph the sunset.
I felt a little silly using my digital camera while the other photographers were using what looked like extremely expensive film cameras. I spoke to one of the men, he was visiting the southwest and said he was from Sweden or Switzerland (I cant remember).
It was extremely cold along the shore with a very strong wind. Just as I was loosing hope of having a colorful sunset and beginning to pack up- the sky lit up with a beautiful orange/purple. |
