Lots of folks on the trail this New Year's morning. Third time I've hiked this one recently. It's close to where I've been staying in San Diego County. Everyone saying "Happy New Year!"

This time the weather was clear, and the mud was all dried up! Nice workout hike. Could see all the biggies: San Antonio (Baldy), San Jacinto, San Gorgonio, Palomar, etc.

This is one of the best "workout hikes" in the area near where I'm staying. I managed to pick a day of mist and drizzle. Trail was very muddy, so I ended up with mud wings on my boots, and a big clump underneath my boots! Trying out the boots to check for foot pain going downhill, trying out lacing system. Glad I wore them because my little hiking shoes would have been a real mess.

Despite the weather, Californians will get out and hike. I saw a few other people. The top of the mountain was in the clouds, so not much of a view.

I'll definitely be back to this hike! It really delivers some exercise! I am still NOT back in shape. This would kick me back in pretty quick, especially if I carry my multi-day pack. It's less than 20 miles from where I'm living, so not super close, but not bad.

View from summit included Angeles Crest, San Gorgonio, San Jacinto, Palomar, Agua Tibia Mountain, the Cuyamacas, the Pacific Ocean, a lot of Fallbrook, and a big stretch of Interstate 15. That's right, it's one of those so-called "urban interface" hikes.

I met a PCT/AT thru-hiker, trail name is Hippie Longstockings. I am going to try to talk to her again, she was a fountain of information!
