Decided to drive a few miles for this one, but it was a manageable amount of LA driving. Parked in the main lot off of Fern Dell Dr, and snagged the only spot I saw. Headed down the trail to the W Observatory trail, which climbs moderately up to the ridge below Griffith Observatory. Lots of people on this trail.

Headed down Boy Scout Trail, which was a nice descent down to the Greek Theater area. Crowds thinned out a little on the trail here, although Vermont Canyon was buzzing with activity. Made my way up from the tennis courts to Riverside Trail, which was relatively flat, and took that to the overlook.

From there, went down to Fern Canyon trail. Crowds really dissipated on the north side, which was nice. To Fern Canyon to Bill Eckert, which began a steady climb up to Viste de Valle Drive. Then a very steep climb up to N Trail.

Once down to Mt Hollywood Trail, the crowds came back, and it was all downhill back to the parking lot.

Pretty cool city park. Most of the official trails are dirt roads, but there are definitely some single track social trails going up and down the ridges.

Parked at the Greek Theater, then went up Riverside and Hogback Trails to Dante's View and Mt Hollywood. Took the North Trail and Mt Chapel Trail over to Mt Lee Drive. Mt Lee Drive took me to Cahuenga Peak (the high point of Griffith Park) and the Hollywood sign. Returned on Mulholland Trail and Hollywood Drive.

A quick weekend trip to California must include a hike right? This mount Hollywood hike started at Griffith Observatory. There is a trail head at the back of the parking lot with good signage of the trails. The route here was up to Mt Hollywood Summit. there is a large network of trails here, mostly fire roads, but there are several ways to get to the summit. We chose what I believe is the most direct. Majority of the hike was done on the Charlie Turner Trail. this takes you past Dante's View. After reviewing the trail later, you can make a loop at the top if you want to come back another way, back just came back the same way. At the summit, you have excellent views of Los Angeles, Giffith Observatory, and the Hollywood Sign. Good little hike, came out to 3.3 round trip with a little straying from the route here and there. Many wildflowers this time of year.

Took a quick jaunt up Mt. Hollywood while visiting LA. Have never been to California, from the top could see most of the metropolis, couldn't figure out which "downtown" was LA. Definitely worth it. Griffith Park is beautiful.
