I camped here the prior night and did a loop through the groves. I went counter clockwise and followed the cairned route from 1 drainage to the 2nd drainage. I should have spent some more time by the water in the largest grove, but there were a fair number of people there.

Our second hike of the day was to more palms as we worked our way back toward camp. This hike is much easier than to the Mortero grove. As you can see from the topo of this area, there are many pockets of palms around, but we went to the two I visited a couple years ago. Next time over here I'll hike to some of the others. Following the hike it was back for a second night of camping at Vallecito County Park, with a stop at the store at Agua Caliente Park on the way to pick up a few items.

After camping at Vallecito Regional Park, I decided to check out one of the native palm groves in the area before heading back to Tucson. This one is in the southern portion of the Anza-Borrego Desert, not too far north of I-8. Palm groves such as these are possible due to perennial springs and seeps in the otherwise harsh dry environment. Nature is amazing! :)

Spent the three days after Christmas hiking in this winter wonderland. Not the most scenic desert I've hiked in, but alluring nonetheless. While there I hiked the Mountain Palm Springs Loop, around Agua Caliente CG, Tamarisk Grove CG, and Borrego Springs CG.
