On the way home from our Utah Christmas, we hit a few hikes along the way. First up was the Red Hollow slot canyon outside of Orderville, Utah. The slot is relatively short, but cool. There is an upclimb that tends to stop most folks' progress. But there was a rope and if you have the upper body strength, you can scramble up and continue progressing up the canyon.

I continued on for several hundred yards until another mandatory upclimb. There was a rope there as well, but it was stuck up too high to retrieve. I might have been able to shimmy up, but it was time to get to my wife, who had not come up the first upclimb.

This is a worthy stop if you are in the area!

Red Hollow slot canyon is such a beautiful hidden gem. I absolutely loved this little canyon; short & sweet for sure! There were about 3 obstacles in the canyon; 2 are difficult and had ropes to assist you. We only had one family in front of us and otherwise had the whole canyon to ourselves until our exit.

The main obstacle was the stopping point for many, as the rope was pretty hard to climb up. I got up with an assist from James and we continued on a ways. One smaller obstacle came up next and that one was easily managed by leveraging your feet on a wall and scooting yourself up. (SO fun!) :D We got to the final obstacle and it was completely sheer walls with a rope situation where you had to be able to completely pull yourself up. James was able to get up there, but I was not. Apparently there is a large 6 ft {very graphic} graffiti up there and otherwise I wasn’t missing much.

We headed out the way we came and even ended up helping a few people up the main obstacle! Getting back down that one was pretty scary and would not good for anyone with heights issues. Tip is don’t stick your feet too far into the stirrups & focus on using the upper rope to pull yourself up. The trail was starting to get a bit crowded as we were leaving, but still nothing like the other main tourist attractions in the area. This was in my top 2 for this Utah trip for sure!

- also since there wasn’t too much prior info in here I’ll add some about the TH. I don’t recall the road being difficult and 4x4 was not required...just a tad sandy & rocky. The way to get there is through a neighborhood and this is pretty much at the end of a residential area, so don’t be concerned you’re in the wrong place. There was also industrial equipment in the area right around the trailhead, again you are still in the correct place. It is small dirt / sand parking area that fits maybe ~7 vehicles -
