It’s a fall extravaganza out here. Got into Salt Lake early afternoon and Alpine Loop was intense with crowds and events. We decided to brave it anyways and saw some great fall colors and one million people.

Sunrise hike out to the falls. Caught the fall colors at their peak. This area is just amazing in the fall!

Great time of year for a trip to Stewart Falls. The falls were a little anemic, compared to past years, but the fall colors were great, as usual!

This is always a beautiful fall hike. The fall colors were close to prime. Started on the dark and arrived at the falls just before sunrise. The falls are a little weak compared to last years, but still a very worthy destination. The return trip was the highlight, watching the sun rise on the east fade of the mountains and light up the fall colors in the trees.

Attending an annual fall conference at Aspen Grove almost guarantees the opportunity to see some fabulous fall colors. The conference includes a traditional morning hike out to Stewart Falls, with the goal of arriving at the falls overlook to watch the sunrise. Hasn't disappointed me yet, and this year was another quality addition to my collection of visits. Highly recommend if you are in the area and looking for a relatively short/moderate hike offering a lot of bang for your buck.

Early morning jaunt out to Stewart Falls from Aspen Grove, where I was staying overnight for a conference. It was raining overnight and still drizzling at 6 a.m., which was our appointed departure time. Most pulled the plug on the hike, but myself and a few die-hards carried on. That was the right choice. Although the trail was a little saturated, it wasn't too bad, and the drizzle was just that--drizzle, and by the time we got to the falls, even the drizzle had dissipated.

The falls were nice, as usual, though I suppose I expected them to be a bit more spectacular with the recent rain fall. The only other downside to the rain was that I didn't get to enjoy watching the sunrise from the falls. Fall colors on the way back (in the light), were a bit past prime, but still enjoyable.

Attended a conference in Aspen Grove, up Provo Canyon above Sundance. Did a sunrise hike out to Stewart Falls. Clouds made the sunrise a bit of a fizzle, but the hike was still beautiful, and the falls lovely. Lots of peak color in the leaves, which made me excited for my post-conference hike up Mt. Timpanogos!

I was up at Aspen Grove, above Sundance, attending a conference, and one of the activities was a pre-dawn hike out to Stewart Falls. We hiked out to the falls by headlamp and then watched the sun rise. It was a beautiful morning and temperatures were perfect. I understand they had snow up there last week, but there was no sign of it at that elevation. The fall colors were on full display. A beautiful area. My only regret was that I didn't have an extra day to hike Mt. Timpanogas. Another time ....

Nick told me if Mt. Timp was a woman; he would marry her. Fun hike in a great area. Added on Roberts Horn because its there. I used the Stewart Falls Trail as a warmup. I'll post a gps route and photos next week.

Hiked with a large group of over 30 people, for my first visit to Stewart Falls. The trail was shady for the the first third, but sunny and open for most of the rest. The trail surface was good dirt which even felt springy at times. We crossed through a variety of plant life, starting with pine forest, then aspens, and then scrub oak mixed with low growing plants and shrubs. The trail started wide enough for two people, but the shrubbery and flowers became thicker toward the end, which narrowed the trail down to 'one lane,' and made it necessary to step off the trail in order to let someone pass in the other direction.

This trail has several (marked) connecting trails coming up from the group camps and cabins below. This turned out to be a problem, because more large groups were also trying to reach the falls. We played a lot of leap frog with groups going in the opposite direction, and our group got split up.

The falls were icy cold and beautiful. There was no shade near the water and only a few places to sit because of the steep terrain. The kids in the group had fun putting their heads under the water, crossing on logs, and throwing a few rocks.

The trail signage indicated a 2 mile hike to the falls, but my GPS recorded 1.9 from the middle of the parking lot. I'll post that later, along with a few photos. I also noted that the parking lot was posted as a self-pay lot ($6 for a 3 day pass), but few cars actually had the pass posted in the window.
