The day was almost over now, and, almost as an afterthought, I decided to go back to Table Mountain in my beloved Cypress Thicket. I parked at the base of Gold Hill on Forest Road 414/Cypress Thicket Road, and took a blocked spur road up to the mesa that led north to Table Mountain. I climbed the west slope over massive slabs of Tapeats Sandstone, and headed to the south edge of the mountain. I roamed the top, listening to my iPod and snapping photos, before descending at dusk. A night time walk in Mazatzal land with good music and a cool evening breeze: for me, nothing could have been sweeter! Back at my truck, I took a much needed bath in the frigid waters of Rye Creek, then drove off looking for a campsite. Irish folk songs and a green shirt seemed like an appropriate choice for Saint Patrick's Day. |
