I decided to bag another Utah County Highpoint today -- this was #13 (out of 29) for me.

I drove a little over 20 miles on a dirt road and parked just before an open gate. I had read that the road past the gate was a bit rough, and since it was only about 3.5 miles from the gate to my destination, I decided to walk it. My rental Chevy Equinox made it without trouble to the gate, and it probably could have made it to within 1,000 feet of the summit.

It was an easy road walk, and I enjoyed the scenery along some high alpine meadows. The road got to within about 1,000 feet of the highpoint, and it was an easy walk through open country from the road to the highpoint.

There were some clouds building as I was hiking on the road, and I could here some rumbles of thunder as I got close to the summit, so I did not stay long at the highpoint.

It started raining a bit on the hike back, and about 2 miles from my car I saw a bolt of lightning flash not too far from me, which was immediately followed by some loud thunder. A couple of guys had been fishing and were in a truck not far from me. I went over there to see if they'd let me sit in their truck while the storm passed and they said sure. They asked me where I parked and I told them a couple of miles down the road, and the driver said that he would just drive me down to where I parked. I appreciated that, and gave him $10 for his trouble. They were from St. George and were up there fishing in one of several lakes in the area.

This is a nice area and I wish that the weather had been more cooperative -- I would have enjoyed having more time to check out the scenery and explore the area a bit.

I stopped my GPS track when I got in the truck on the way back, so it is an odd looking track.
