This was a hike to 2 different peaks in Southern Nevada, about 50 miles south of Las Vegas:
1) The unnamed high point of the Wee Thump Joshua Tree Wilderness Area (elevation of 5,150 feet and prominence of 149 feet)
2) Crescent Peak (elevation of 6,002 feet and prominence of 1,163 feet)

Both of these are west of the town of Searchlight, off of Highway 164.

Wee Thump
(1.75 miles with 420 feet of AEG)
I drove in about a mile off of the highway and parked. The road was fine for a crossover SUV and I probably could have driven further. I hiked on the road a ways and then went off trail to the high point. Not surprisingly, there were quite a few Joshua trees along the way.

Crescent Peak
(4.20 miles with 1.458 feet of AEG)
I drove in a couple of miles off the highway on Crescent Peak Road. Most vehicles could easily make the drive.
I hiked on a lesser road for a mile or so and then hiked up a rib to the main ridgeline that goes to the peak from the SW. This was a nice hike -- the peak was visible the entire way and the route up was very obvious. There were quite a few Joshua trees on this hike also.

Synopsis
It was an enjoyable day hiking to these 2 high points. It was a sunny day and the temps were around 50 degrees. The route finding was easy on these 2 hikes, which was a refreshing change from most of the other peaks that I have bagged lately.

McCullough Mountain (elevation of 7,026 feet and prominence of 2,170 feet) has been on my radar screen so I decided to go hike it today. In addition to being a P2K peak, it is the highpoint of the McCullough Range, and is also on the Sierra Club Desert Peaks Section(DPS) peak list.

I drove in on Wee Thump Road for several miles through a Joshua Tree forest. I enjoyed driving through the Joshua trees, and the road was not too bad, although at a minimum you'd need a HCV. I was happy to have 4WD for the drive.

This a typical DPS hike: off the grid and no trail. Route finding on this hike was not too bad though: I went through a wash for a couple of miles, traversed around a ridgeline to get to another wash, went through the second wash to within around 300 vertical feet of the summit, and then busted up some slopes to the summit. Most of the hike was class 1, with a bit of rock scrambling in a short portion of the second wash.

I enjoyed the hike although it won't make my favorite hike list. Route finding was much easier than many off-trail hikes that I have done, since there is really only one way to go in a narrow wash, and most of the hike was in a couple of narrow washes. The downside is that there wasn't much in the way of views when hiking in the washes, although I really enjoyed the views at the summit.
