Camped at Marble canyon on the way home from Utah. Did the South fork of Badger since I hadn't done it before. Really muddy and a challenge to keep feet dry.

Party of 7 consisting of 2 experienced + 5 novice. We did the North Fork parking near the bridge just west of Vermillion Cliffs motel. We did 3 rappels, skipped the first anchor which had an easy down climb on the right. The rappels were perfect for teaching novices, each subsequent rap added an element (first was 35ft starting from a huge ledge, then 75ft and steeper into a narrow notch, finally a 25ft free rap.)
It took us about 2hours to descend, the remainder of the time was spent on the exit. We did the upstream exit as is recommended in the guide: Grand Canyoneering. It is a long way to travel on loose talus (2+miles) then zaging back another 0.5mile til a cliff break allows access to the rim (we ended up doing a short bit of easy 5th class) Travel close to the river is difficult due to thick tamarisk. The trail is not well cairned and mostly consists of just a sheep path.

A little bit of mud at rap 2, and a little more for those unsuspecting souls...(sorry Todd). The exit 1 mile south has a very exposed 5.4 climb after the scree climb. Don't think about it too much or the headgames will start. Thanks to Todd for the help.

Note to self: buy new shoes.

Pretty fun canyon, including therapeutic mud baths available at several points along the way. The downriver exit is a little sketchy, especially when your shoes are held together with mainly athletic tape and string!

Two of us stuck around the Lee's Ferry area an extra day to get more bang for our $4/gallon of gas buck. Such a sweet canyon and you hit those first narrows fairly soon from the highway with a couple down climbs and two cool rappels into some muddy pools... This canyon is super scenic as it slowly drops to the Colorado River. Some bypasses around drops and then one more mandatory short rappel before you hear the roar of the Badger Creek rapids. :o It was cool to grab a snack alongside it and watch rafters getting thrown around in them. Hmm, think a packraft could handle that? Last time I just ascended back up my ropes, but this time we mixed it up a bit and traversed upstream along the river to another exit canyon found by other canyoneers. It wasn't too bad at first as we walked along a flat bench but eventually it turned into a rock slope requiring loads and loads of climbing and angled rock hopping. The river was scenic for sure, but going back up the ropes would be much shorter and easier. We eventually reach the break in the clifband above us and then once up on it we traverse back to the exit canyon. It was nice to be back up on the flat rim and walking back to our car with the sweet views of the surrounding Vermillion cliffs. Such a sweet canyon and def worth sticking around 6 hours for. :D

WoW, this way the sweetest canyon of the day! :y: I didn't feel like doing the longer exposed loop hike, so I loaded up my 40ft, 100ft, & 200ft ropes into my pack  to set ropes at the three drops to ascend them on the way back though you could get away with 2 50ft & a 70ft rope. Thankfully I didn't to hike down the sandy wash very far before hitting the first set of drops. After some tricky down climbing, I got to the 35ft drop that was thankfully dry down below, followed shortly by a 60ft chute. The canyon is pretty sweet after this with amazingly tall glowing sandstone walls, many dry falls to bypass or climb down, and some cool slickrock sections before you hit the final drop of 25ft though you're anchor back a good 50ft. After that it's fairly easy walking down to the Colorado River where I grabbed some lunch and took a good nap in the warm sun along the soothing rapids. When I was rested up, I returned up canyon and slowly acsend all three drops and hauled my ropes back to my car. Definely a must do canyon if you're into canyoneering and in the area. My time logged excludes my nearly hour long nap... :D

Loop hike by descending Badger Canyon first, then downstream from the rapids along the Colorado River and exited via the next small side canyon to the south. Car camped at the overlook the Friday night before and Saturday afterwards.
