Earlier on the same day I hiked the Perilla Benchmark and South Perilla High Point near Douglas, AZ. I made the long drive and had some additional energy and needed something short & easy to pair that with and this was a great choice because by the time I got here and started this hike it was already 5:20 pm and I wanted to finish before dark, which I just did without a minute to spare. My round trip distance was under 3 miles and 99% of the hike was good dirt road. The only "open country" portion of this hike was a bit of my exploration at the top. I didn't see a registry up there but I did see an old metal cylinder sticking out of the ground where it looked like a US survey marker did exist once but wasn't there as of today.

There were plenty of radio and satellite towers on the top of the mountain. The towers were on private property, but all of that was fenced in. The allow people to walk the road which is nice. It was a nice summit and I could see the other high Bisbee peaks by looking across the highway and a little further East.

This hike could be made a lot easier by driving all the way up the road to the top, but then it wouldn't be a hike, would it? ;-).

Stats:
-------
Distance (round trip) = 2.67 miles
AEG = 447 feet
Strava moving time = 1 hr
Strava elapsed time = 1 hr 10 mins

I just discovered that I neglected to post this hike from earlier this year.

I was on my way to New Mexico and decided to stop on the way and hike up to Juniper Flats Mountain (elevation of 7,161 feet and prominence of 1,161 feet).

I drove part way up the road and parked so as to at least make a short hike out of this one. I walked along the road to the summit area and wandered around a bit so as to hit the highpoint. There were some pretty nice views at the summit, which I enjoyed.

I then hiked the road back to my vehicle. I wish that I had more time to do a bit more exploring in the area.

I didn't follow the exact route of the BZB1000, but I definitely did more than 1000 stairs ... my calves were still sore two days later!
My favorite thing in the world is exploring, and Bisbee is made to explore - so I'm newly obsessed with it ... I've visited twice in February, and have the next visit already booked for early March.
I've stayed at two different hotels so far - one on Brewery Gulch, and one on Main Street. The Bisbee Inn/Hotel La More on Brewery Gulch was the best so far. I stayed in room 23 - the ghost cat room! Did not meet the ghost cat - or any other entities - but I did really enjoy the energy of the place, chatting with other visitors, and meeting the live cat who lives there ... his name is King Henry, and I sat on the porch providing him a warm lap on a cold night for about an hour. The Bisbee Ghost Tour came by while I was sitting out there with the cat, then they went into the hotel ... I believe I will take a ghost tour on one of my next visits.
Bisbee has over 33,000 stairs, in over 335 sets - along with a bunch of other skinny little streets and alleys - and all of them lead you on wonderful journeys past amazing houses and gardens, funky street art and historic treasures. I even bought a guidebook about the stairs and picked out a couple really interesting ones to visit this trip, and to plan for future trips.
Highlights included the Pumphouse Stairway - 111 steps up to the old Bisbee reservoir and swimming pool - and the 181 steps that connect Main Street to Maxfield Avenue at the top of Castle Rock.
I also enjoyed the Historical & Mining Museum - especially the upstairs, which is a Smithsonian affiliate - and the Bisbee Library. Bisbee has both Arizona's oldest library and it's oldest saloon (St. Elmo's),which is awesome. The library has been in operation since 1882 - the current building was the third one, and was built in 1907. It is three stories tall, with wraparound balconies on the 2nd and 3rd floor - and it is glorious!
Of course Bisbee also offers amazing restaurants and cool shops, along with just great people-watching and super cool locals. Next trip, I'm staying in a casita belonging to a local so that I can be in a neighborhood and get to know some people ... the casita also happens to be at the top of one of Bisbee's longest and most interesting stairways - it's 164 steps and it changes direction six times on the way up. Happily, there is also car access ... many of the homes in Bisbee have no car access - imagine having to climb up and down 100 steps every time you come and go - and carrying your groceries and everything else up those steps!
On my way out of town this last time, I also drove up Juniper Flats to check out the free camping areas up there - which are fantastic! Yeah, there is some trash and broken glass at some of them, but most are clean and have easy access and gorgeous views.
I might be visiting Bisbee every two or three weeks for the foreseeable future, so more triplogs coming! :)

Evening hike with Shauna while on a Bisbee day-trip. Explored the west and middle forks of the Juniper Flats roads for the first time. Did some off trail and came across an old corral and rock walls. Middle fork ends at a private property sign, behind which is a large backwoods mansion on a hill. Must be new, as satellite imagery doesn’t show it. Completed the outing with a hike up to the towers on Juniper Flats mountain itself.

Juniper Flats Mountain/Juniper benchmark 7110 peak: a short hike during our Bisbee day trip. The road out to Juniper Flats was better than I had remembered. Could’ve driven it, but the views are nice and so was the road hike. At the 3-way road junction, the main road out to the Flats was closed due to road construction. We took the far right fork to the radio tower summit, thankful for tiny patches of shade on a very warm autumn day. The vegetation looked very dry, even the agaves were withering. After peaking over the edge of the west summit, we took a spur road to its end at a campsite, and then began following a faint social trail further east. We went up and over a small false summit before reaching the 7110’ benchmark summit and register. Saw no one on our hike, as expected. The return hike was quick, and we were soon our way into Bisbee for afternoon fun.

Juniper Flats Peak 7,161' - Prominence 1,121'

Began this hike from the waypoint described by (PTY) and found it to be just a bit shorter from that point - you can begin earlier / later - a very flexible situation. Did this as a brief, invigorating sunset hike. The site description of this area is well put, as the panoramic views are breath-taking! I'll be keeping this put away as an easy access snow hike come later in the year. I had intended to bag Mount Ballard and then do this hike across the divide as a couplet, but got too late a start. Avg. Grade 64.2% GPS Route Available

Did this as a side adventure while passing through Bisbee on a cold, windy, wintery day. Started out just before sunset, made the top, watched the first arm of a huge snowstorm slam Bisbee, then hiked back at dusk. The weather and the clouds made for a great hike. Not a bad little hike, if road hiking doesn't bother you.
