Camped here with some friends on the way to Black Canyon. It was a fulfilling experience to connect with the lower part of Burro Creek after exploring near the headwaters in Upper Burro Creek Canyon last month.
My sunrise hike was originally planned to head west down the creek, following the Eagle and Joe's route from a few years ago. But the barb wire fences stopped me and it was too early and I was too tired to mess with going underneath, over, etc. So I picked the path of least resistance and stumbled around the east side of the campground and took some photos.

The USGS gauge for Burro Creek at the US93 Bridge was fluctuating between 0.0 and 0.3, with most measurements over the past 72 hours reading zero. I know there is SOME perennial water here, but I was nervous. I was relieved to arrive and see some decent flow in the creek. I'm not sure what's up with that gauge, but I know USGS will verify the data in 30 day intervals, so it's possible the dataset will be corrected.

In between medium and light flow. The water looks like it is not moving in the wider sections, but has some nice riffles that are moving quickly through the narrower parts of the canyon.

Almost home. Fun place, not crowded.

Did a short Hike while I was camped at the Campground. Started at what looks to be a TH at the Campground, and followed the Creek upstream for about a 1/4 mile, then turned west and crossed the Creek. It appears in most of this area, that they have built Riffle Pools, either for Waterfowl or Fish or both. There are small earthen dams all along the stretch that back up the Water, forming large "ponds" along the Creek. I have been seeing alot of Herons and Raptors so they must like the area.

Scrambled along the sandstone edge along the other side for a bit, and then headed up into the small Box Canyon across from the Campground. Steep in areas with some scree, but not terrible. Looked like there was a significant Waterfall coming down the Box, probably just a few days before, when we had all of the Rain. Watched a Great Blue Heron for awhile, perched along the Sandstone Cliffs, and then I climbed up to the top of the Bluff overlooking the Creek and Campground. Ended up making this little trek a Loop, as the road that takes you past the Campground ultimately runs by there, before looping back around to Highway 93.

Enjoyed the views from the top and wanted to go further West to check out a cool looking Canyon, but was stopped by a fence with Private Property/No Trespassing posted all over it. I hiked down the road and passed a few areas that look like they're used for dispersed Camping. Kind of cool spots, as they have a Bird's Eye View of the Creek from up there. Walked down the road further and found the "source" of the Private Property. Large spread with a possible residence and lots of junk cars and equipment. I think the "Owner" was driving around on an ATV "patrolling" too... ;)

Stayed on the road almost to the small Bridge over the Creek, and then turned and went back down to the Creek, after the fence ended. Crossed the Creek again and ran into a couple of scrawny looking Calves in the Creek. Followed the Creek back up, under the small Bridge and back into the Campground...

Just a little "exploratory" jaunt. If I am up that way again, I'll want to just stay in the Creekbed and either go upstream, or down, and check out some of the Canyons this Creek runs into. They look pretty cool... :)

From my first trip to Joshua Trees National Park in California, I recall the Park Ranger informing some visitors that they won't find the U2 Joshua tree in JOTR because the photo was actually shot in Arizona.

I had that filed away as a future trek to find the Joshua tree in AZ. A little research proved the Ranger correct that the photo shoot wasn't in JOTR, but was incorrect in crediting Arizona as the location.

Still curious as to why the Joshua Forest area is a "black hole" on HAZ, I wanted to explore. I think a future trek into the Arrastra Mountain Wilderness may be on the "to do" list... :D

Bushwacking, wading in water, rock hopping, walking in sand/ river rocks, burro sightings.... I enjoyed it.
I headed up stream, under the bridge, and around the first big bend. I turned around when I couldnt see the bridge anymore.

We made a stop here returning from a trip to NW AZ. Wandered around the campground area and followed the creek downstream a ways.
