Nice bike, but too hard to figure out, so did the same thing as yesterday, manipulating the resistance every two minutes to simulate riding hills. Somehow managed to get a watts graph to display. (Despitre riding the same yesterday and tomorrow, it did not do the other days.) No boxers today, despite a ring being in the hotel gym; probably resting up for tomorrow night.

Afterwards, headed out to Hoover Dam for the full $30 tour. The first time I had ever been inside was pretty cool. However, even though there was very low foot & vehicle traffic, the tour was still full at 20 people every 30 minutes. I definitely recommend doing it like we did, mid-week on a non-holiday.

On the way back on the I-215 it started to rain, and we passed two accidents in Henderson, one where a big black pickup had got turned around backwards against the median, and a separate second accident less than a mile away where a semi had punched a hole through the median. And I thought Arizonans had problems driving in the wet ...

This was hike #96 of the year. Took me awhile to get to the triplog as I was working on several videos.

After seeing Terry Fator -- wow, is his assistant/wife beautiful :o -- and visiting the Neon Museum and Mob Museum ( youtu.be/Q56rYd7KJbA ), and I swear not gambling a single penny, :A1: I stopped at the Lake Mead trailhead, just before the last casino, on my way out of Vegas. The trail is flat, wide and devoid of obstacles. The tunnels are kind of interesting, and there are dozens of educational signs along the way, but to me the really cool part was Hoover Dam itself. I'm sure I looked like a hobo, wandering around the dam with my pack, week old beard and Hat of Many Blood Stains. 8-[ I walked across to the Arizona side, then back. I did not take the tour, but I could have still spent a good extra hour looking at stuff, or just enjoying the scenery.

This would be a great hike for people who aren't hikers, like my wife, but otherwise you might be better off doing the out & back non-dam parts on a mountain or Dutch-type bike.

Nice short backpack down to some awesome hot springs.
Leaving from the new boondoggle White Rock Canyon parking lot, the (traditional) hike is in the gravel canyon bottom that starts out in an uninteresting wide-open wash but soon enters into some pretty interesting slots. Upon reaching the Colorado River (lake) after about 3 miles, climb up/over/and around to the south about 1/4 mile to Hot Springs canyon and then upstream to the hot springs. The upper (hotter) spring registered 107f. With about a 70% moon, the nightsoaking was heavenly.
There is also the less traditional route that takes you down a couple of sporty (for a backpacker) climb-arounds directly down the hot springs canyon to the hot springs. The trails diverge about 1/2 mile from the highway trailhead, with the traditional one bearing right (north northwest) staying in the initial main wash and the more direct route heading off south southwest into a wash just south of the 'main' one. Expect no signs or other directions - take a spirit of discovery, you will neither need nor want a gps.

Note: There is also a great side-hike to Liberty Bell arch that heads off to the north- west-ish from the 'traditional' route. The arch is about a mile or mile-and-a-half each way from the traditional route. This hike also will take you past an abandoned magnesium mine - it is quite interesting as well. Hiked the bridge and dam to escape my relatives over thanksgiving. Not sure what was worse, my relatives or hiking with 900 other people. It was outside and I didn't have to choke down one more bite of food. We drove across the bridge on the way to Vegas and missed it. Welcome to Nevada sign gave us a clue. Looks a lot more spectacular from the dam.

Part of our Oregon Trail Tale 2010 => http://hikearizona.com/TL.php?ID=56595

Stop off with the dogs on our way to Oregon to visit Hannah for Thanksgiving. Dogs aren't allowed on the dam or the bridge, so Lynn stayed in the parking lot as I made my way across...
