Met up with Nina who laid out a fantastic loop this morning at Lucero trails in Estrella Mountain Ranch. Started on Sidewinder, Nitro Knoll, Copper State Crosscut, Ridgeline, Copper State Crosscut, Coyote Creek clockwise, Centipede, Viper (Venom), Black Widow, Coyote Creek counter clockwise, Tarantula up and down, Coyote Creek back to Sidewinder. Saw 2 other women on Centipede near the top.

Met up with Carey and Christina this morning at Ladera Community Park off Hillside Drive in Estrella Mountain Ranch for a Harem Hike on the Lucero trails. On Hillside trail for a minute to Copper State Crosscut, up and back on Ridgeline to Bradley Peak, counter clockwise on Copper State Crosscut to Nitro Knoll, Sidewinder, Upper Recluse, Viper, Centipede, Coyote Creek, Copper State Crosscut back to Hillside and Ladera Park. Passed some fellow hikers early on and saw some mountain bikers down on Scorpion from the Viper/Centipede highpoint. Nice cool temps, easy breezes, and clear skies made for a fantastic hike. Post hike treats at Safeway at Estrella Parkway and Elliot.

Tried to talk my buddy Craig into a Lucero ride earlier this week. Since that fell through, I strapped on my hiking boots this morning and headed out to scratch that itch. Changed up my normal routine by parking at Ladera Park which has a nice covered playground and a restroom with flush toilets. Walked up the DG sidewalk/trail to Copper State Crosscut and up Ridgeline to the top of Bradley Peak. Came back down the shortcut to Copper State counter clockwise to Sidewinder, Nitro Knoll, and Coyote Creek. Then up to the saddle on Recluse. Tried to follow the, no longer existent, hiking trail up to the peak, but wound up connecting up with Venom and taking that to the top. Down on Centipede back to Coyote Creek west to Copper State Crosscut back to where I started. Lots of construction activity below installing utilities into the future homesites. I usually never see anyone on these trails but there were plenty of hikers and just one biker out on them this morning. Lots of weeds encroaching on the narrow trails. Some wildflower activity.

Looking for a short hike, somewhat close by and this fit the bill. No trail to follow, just some dirt roads and power lines around the base of the hill. Nice view from up top...it let you see into the Estrella Ranch area. Good view of the Estrella Park area. Saw a trail that went along the base of one of the mountains that I am not sure if I have done. I'll have to revisit the park and check it out. Saw a hawk and lizards, but not much else.

Did the cirque.
There were three people on one of the opposing mountains, and at least 10 emergency vehicles heading south on Estrella Parkway. :o

Did a little climbing on one of the bigger rock faces below the peak. Easy class 4, I'm guessing. Maybe 10-15ft. Getting a little more comfortable.

Ran into a small Diamondback on the way down. One of the many hazards that come with hiking down talus with no headlamp in Arizona. :sweat:

Haven't done anything in 18 days. Went to my more recent 'I don't want to pay the $6 White Tank fee' location. Instead of heading right for 1282 like I normally do, I did a bit of a loop along the hill's ridges. Topped it off with staying up top and watching the sun make its way behind the mountains in the distance.

First benchmark hunt. Started off with BM Goodyear on top of a small hill just outside of Estrella Regional Park (the park maps have this labeled Mica Butte). Only a small amount of cement was found next to the drill hole - not surprising. Picked up 5 or 6 water bottles on my way down.

Next up was BM Bradley. I followed a Jeep/ATV/UTV/etc road to the base of the mountain and proceeded up the western side. A little slippery because of the loose rock, but nothing impassable. Found the first reference mark and the station mark (I believe that's the correct lingo) immediately, but couldn't find the second reference. After about 10 minutes of looking on the wrong side of the mountain, I finally spotted it thanks to the glare.
