With no out of town hikers signing up, we moved the hike to an earlier start... with an Exploratory drift to the south. The route held to the top of the cliff edges, lower than our normal traverse of this area. It was nice! Hit top of Goat South after ascending Goat Middle Falls. From there around and above Cabrito... then along the top of the Quiet Cliffs. Great rock and rock moments. For the most part we enjoyed better footing hiking along game trails... converting to hike trails should be easy? Crossing Gordo Cut we worked around into upper Quiet and on over the Dome Ridge and down into the Dome Cut. I'd forgotten what an exceptional canyon route that cut provides; excellent exit!

I need to schedule a RockHound loop... there is great specimen rock along the entire route. Gotta think of a name for this loop... Goat Cliffs Wrap? GoatDome Loop? ???

socked in... blind hiking. Odd, I picked this route to give us views and overviews of the surrounding areas; no way today! So, we walked John around and down into El Gordo, then we checked possible trail routes around the cliff tops. It finally cleared out as we finished our day... oh, well.

Ross and John... Alena a no show today.

easy, short walk over to old Jeep track and up towards the base of the Point...

Most of the day spent on the computer... editing photos, planning some longterm efforts, and trying to decide how to close out the year. 2014 was to be about promoting local hiking activity. That has had mixed success. The current Map development may provide an interesting boost to the process, once completed. It will have Waypoint links to HAZ for trail description and pictures... and to Google+ for even more pics.

This week: more online promotional efforts. Connected with a site that is about New Mexico, on Facebook. Folks post pictures... then and now. 22,000 members. First 24 hours I was online there were over 1,000 different members making comments... various pics I posted were getting 50-180 "Likes"... and generating comments from hikers not aware of all the hiking potentials in Alamo. Oddly, some of those were folks living in Alamo! Most of the members are likely not hikers... so, a very diluted result.

Probably will close out 2014 with a brief hit of radio and newspaper promotions, then move on to 2015. That year, all promo to be for out of state hikers.

...interesting day... interesting year.

I did decide how to close out this month. Now, to see if I'll get up tomorrow and do it!

Nice to discover yet another little canyon close to my house, and this one is a fun little workout. I think it may be the last, although there is another cut further south up behind some houses... guess I need to get over and see if it is worth doing.
